Scottie Pippen

NFL Quiz: (1) Who has thrown the most career interceptions?
(2) What QB has the highest passing yards per attempt ratio?
Answers below.

Scottie Pippen

This is an abbreviated Bar Chat as I just got back from a brief
vacation (if you call running a marathon a vacation). But I had to
relay a story I saw on Pippen in the current issue of Sports
Illustrated, specifically concerning the women in his life.

Scottie married Karen McCollum back in the late ''80s after
meeting her at Central Arkansas St. Before they divorced about
two years later, they had a son, Antron. Then Pippen hooked up
with Yvette DeLeone. Before they were to be married, they had
a daughter Sierra. Pippen then was arrested on a domestic
battery charge but DeLeone didn''t press charges. They also
didn''t get married.

Now we move to model Sonya Ruby. Pippen fathered twins,
with one of the babies dying 9 days after birth. The survivor is a
boy, Taylor, with whom Pippen has no relationship.

Which leaves us with Pippen''s current flame, his second wife
Lars. Sports Illustrated asked Lars if it was odd to have married
a man who already had some children and Lars looked puzzled.
"Some kids?" she said. "Wait. He has two." Well, not quite
Lars. Welcome to Scottie''s world. And Scottie, for being such a
dirtball, welcome to the Bar Chat Dirtball Hall of Fame!!

Leon Smith

Just an update on the Dallas Mavericks rookie who tried to
commit suicide. Smith, you''ll also recall, was a mere high school
senior at this time last year. As more of his story has come out, it
is rather sad. He was abandoned by both of his parents at the age
of 5.

Anyway, Smith clearly wasn''t ready for the NBA like some other
recent high school grads (Garnett, Bryant, McGrady, to name a
few). The NBA is once again contemplating raising the age at
which kids can come out for the draft. Of course, this wouldn''t
stand up in court.

So it turns out that Smith swallowed 250 aspirin tablets. If his
friend hadn''t just stopped by the apartment shortly thereafter,
Smith is dead. Smith was then sent to a psychiatric hospital
where, on his own, he decided to head back home to Chicago. At
this point he assaulted his girlfriend. The sad saga continues.

Mr. And Mrs. Brown

So what do you say about parents who name their boy SirValiant
Brown? SirValiant (sic) happens to be a freshman guard at
George Washington where he is lighting it up. Well, they named
his brother SirLancelot. You can''t make this stuff up, folks.

Shawn Green

Green, the former Toronto Blue Jays star, just signed a monster
contract with the Dodgers. Green is also Jewish, prompting
Sports Illustrated to come up with their all-Jewish major league
baseball team, a roster that Green should easily crack in a year or
two.

Rod Carew, 2B
Buddy Myer, SS
Al Rosen, 3B
Hank Greenberg, 1B
Sid Gordon, RF
Benny Kauff, LF
Elliot Maddox, CF
Moe Berg, C.spoke 12 languages, hit in none.
Sandy Koufax, P.ranked up there with Moses.

*I used to think I knew my baseball. I never heard of Myer or
Kauff.

Top 3 songs for the week of 12/14/63: #1 "Dominique" (The
Singing Nun) #2 "Louie Louie" (The Kinsmen) #3 "Everybody"
(Tommy Roe). *Now I have to be honest here. I was 5-years old
in 1963 and I was about to receive my first record player. Guess
what my first ''45 was? "Dominique." Hey, I''m Catholic. What
did you expect my mom to let me buy? Louie Louie? Actually,
there is no doubt that extensive exposure to "Dominique"
affected me in an adverse way.

Quiz Answers: (1) George Blanda, 277. (2) Otto Graham, 8.63.

Next Bar Chat, Wednesday. I''ll have a Christmas theme for the
next few.
