A U.S. Army Apache attack helicopter crashed early Tuesday near the Strait of Hormuz, and at first, there were few details, though President Trump told reporters that the two crew members aboard were not injured in the incident.
The crash happened about 3:30 a.m. local Tuesday off the coast of Oman while on a patrol, the U.S. military’s Central Command said in a statement.
A surface naval drone helped rescue the downed crew members, according to Centcom, the first time an unmanned vehicle was used in such an operation.
The 24-foot Corsair autonomous surface vessel was manufactured by Saronic Technologies Inc. and was operated by the U.S. 5th Fleet’s Task Force 59 unit that includes surface, underwater and one-way attack drones.
The drone picked up the Apache operators and transported them to another location on the water where they were hoisted by a rescue helicopter.
President Trump then posted on Truth Social, 12:38 PM:
“I have just been informed by our Great Military that last night the Iranians shot down one of our highly sophisticated Apache Helicopters while patrolling over the Strait of Hormuz. There were two pilots involved, both are safe and uninjured. Nevertheless, the United States must, of necessity, respond to this attack. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Shortly before Trump’s post, Iranian parliamentary speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf posted to X:
“We prefer the language of diplomacy, but we speak other languages far more fluently. Break your commitments, and we’ll switch to what we speak best. You ride the horse you saddled!”
Crude oil fell to around $86 per barrel today, the lowest since April 17, after Israel and Iran agreed to halt attacks following a renewed escalation in hostilities.
President Trump said that negotiations were entering the final stage and that a clearer outcome could emerge within days.
After the announcement that Iran shot down the Apache, oil rallied back just a little.
Meanwhile, China’s crude imports dropped to the lowest level in more than eight years and nearly 4 million barrels per day below the 2025 average. Weaker demand from the world’s largest oil importer, combined with record U.S. exports and emergency reserve release, has helped limit the price impact of the conflict.
On the equity front, a fresh wave of selling swept through the market amid mounting anxiety over technology stocks.
Chipmakers, which have powered the recovery from war-driven lows, swung violently and tumbled 5%. Nasdaq was down over 3% earlier in the day, before recovering as the afternoon wore on.

As for the Knicks last night in Game 3 of the NBA Finals, they had so many opportunities to win it and go up 3-0, but they were sloppy, started the fourth quarter missing their first nine 3-point attempts, and lost it 115-111…Game 4 Wednesday, with the Spurs now having a chance to get it to even before heading home for Saturday’s Game 5. Ugh.
