Global Data

Global Data

[Wall Street History returns 10/1]

I was reading a piece in USA Today this week, one on the record
number of centenarians in Japan, now 23,038, and I thought I
would explore the source of the information, the CIA World
Factbook, to see what I could come up with in terms of important
economic data across the globe.

Population growth, or lack thereof, for example, is a key factor
when government officials look at things like future spending on
entitlements, such as for pension and health care programs. Just
look at the debate in the United States that is heating up anew as
the baby boomers begin to retire.

In addition, some of the other data I include is important from a
geo-political standpoint, such as in the case of India and China.

But the bottom line is all of us should be somewhat familiar with
much of the following.
